The Play 4 Scholars Project provides an enjoyable and educational way to use the Internet and video games to help what Caritas Manila Executive Director Fr. Anton C.T. Pascual describes as “Scholars of the Helpful.” It lets everyone play Wordtrotter for free here at www.play4scholars.com and earn one centavo for each word they get right to help send poor kids to school.

Here’s how Play 4 Scholars works:

Our system randomly assigns each online player a partner sponsor.
For each word that the player gets right, the sponsor’s logo or brand will be displayed for at least ten seconds—showing support for Play 4 Scholars.
The sponsor will donate one centavo to Caritas Manila’s scholarship fund.
Caritas Manila uses this information to collect the sponsor’s total donation.
It is pooled with other donations to provide the scholars and their families with the following benefits:
- formal and non-formal education--elementary, high school, college, and vocational levels
- values formation for leadership, family life, and environment protection
- sacramental appreciation
- primary health care, nutrition, and crisis intervention
- child rights protection
- livelihood and skills training
- opportunities for self/wage employment
- other socio-economic development programs
